Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring So it has been awhile but I needed time to think about what might be next on my list. Now I have been seriously scrutinized for liking this movie because I never read any of the Lord of the Rings books, so if you are one of those people that thinks like an idiot you can kiss my ass and stop reading now. When I first saw the trailer for this movie I was so intrigued. Not only did I think that it looked excellent but I knew I wasn’t going to be disappointed. This movie has a lot of good actors in it, some under rated ones (I should say some that have not done any movies to their potential yet), and some up and coming stars. As you all know Elijah Wood plays Frodo Baggins, a Hobbit from the Shire who inherits the ring of power from his uncle Bilbo Baggins. Gandalf, played by Ian McKellan is a wizard who looks after Frodo. He knows the rings potential and realizes that if it is not destroyed all hell will come of Middle Earth and Salron (not sure if I spelled it right) will come back to take over. Poor Frodo embarks on a journey through Middle Earth with Samwise (Sean Astin) his best friend to take the ring to be destroyed. All along the way they are burdened by Merry and Pippin, two annoying but very loyal friends of Frodo’s, Ring Wraiths (again the spelling is probably wrong) who are trying to steal the ring to take it to the Dark Lord Salron, and everyone with any kind of power who knows about the ring. They all know how powerful this ring is and want it for their own good. This makes for a huge obstacle for poor Frodo and his friends who are helped along the way by the Fellowship. This is made up of Aragorn (Viggo Mortenson), Legolas, ahhhh Legolas! (Orlando Bloom), Gimli (John Rhys-Davies), Gandalf, Pippin (Billy Boyd), Merry (Dominic Monaghon), Borimir (Sean Bean), and Sam. They all have sworn to protect Frodo on his quest and I guess you will all have to see the next two installments of the series to find out what happens (The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers and the Lord of the Rings: Return of the King). Other actors who are in the movie include Liv Tyler, Cate Blanchett, Hugo Weaving, Ian Holm, and Christopher Lee. I know that all of my readers have seen the first one, if you haven’t please do, and I suggest the next two as well. Two Towers is now out on DVD and if you wait a few more months you can see the special edition. The Return of the King is due in theaters December 17th. This movie not only has a great cast that delivers one great performance, but the special effects are amazing and how they made Ian McKellan look so huge next to Elijah Wood is beyond me. That is the miracle of computers I guess! posted by Jenna Monday, September 22, 2003
