My Favorite Movies So I have realized that there are plenty of movies out there that I can put on my list of favorites. Sorry to disappoint any of you but Twister will not be making the list so get your moans and groans out now. I won’t be listing them all at the same time…mainly to make reading my blog easier so you don’t get bored with yourself and to give me time to think about how to narrow it down. I was going to give you my top ten list but I don’t know if it will be more or less and this is something I need to put some serious thought into. For today’s blog I have picked… Big Trouble in Little China This is a great movie directed by John Carpenter (probably one of his best). Unfortunately, many people who see this movie tend to forget about its existence after awhile until someone brings it up, or they see it on TNT. The Movie stars Kurt Russell and Kim Cattrall (long before her Sex and the City days). Russell plays Jack Burton, a typical trucker who gets caught up in the ancient magical underworld of Los Angeles’s China Town. Kim Cattrall plays Gracie Law (I really like the name Gracie…hint, hint) a lawyer who can’t keep her nose out of other people’s business and soon becomes one of the damsels in distress. It all starts when Jack Burton and his friend Wang Chi (Dennis Dunn) are at the airport picking up Wang’s girlfriend Maio Yin (who only has about two lines in the entire movie). Fresh “off the boat” from China she is a rare beauty with Green eyes (“Chinese girls do not come with green eyes.”). Unfortunately a Chinese gang called the Lords of Death kidnaps her to take her to a Chinese whorehouse where she is held prisoner, that is until David Lopan (James Hong, who you will see with bit parts in many movies) kidnaps her from her kidnappers. You see he is a 2,000 year old maniac who needs to marry and sacrifice a girl with green eyes to become mortal again. This movie is full of great one-liners and has no trouble keeping you entertained each time you see it. Not only that, the jokes never get old and you find yourself finding more and more humor that you didn’t catch before. The quirky characters and crazy goings-on are more than enough to make my favorite movie list and if you haven’t seen it then you definitely should. If this is a movie that you have placed on the back shelf of your brain then watch it again and enjoy yourself for 99 minutes. I know I always do. posted by Jenna Sunday, August 24, 2003
