And the Next Feature Film Is… Beaches Unless you have ovaries than there is an excellent chance that you have never seen or possibly refuse to see this movie. Bette Midler and Barbara Hershey play best friends CC and Hillary who are exact opposites from two completely different walks of life. At around the age of 11 these two girls cross paths at the beach in Atlantic City. CC (Midler) is a fiery red head who is pretty rough around the edges and is in all sorts of kiddie variety shows. She has an amazing voice and knows that she is destined for stardom. This little girl from Brooklyn can handle anything that comes her way and will stop at nothing to get what she wants. Hillary (Hershey) is a rich little debutante from California whose sweetness and ‘proper’ upbringing are almost too much for CC. When Hillary is lost on the beach she sits down to cry, when from under the boardwalk comes CC to the rescue. She tells her where her hotel is and as she goes to take her there she realizes she has an audition to go to first. Hillary tags along and is instantly amazed at how beautiful CC’s voice is. They decide that they will be friends forever and trade addresses and are pen pals for ten years until their paths cross again. CC is singing in a club in NY when Hillary shows up out of the blue with her bags and needs a place to stay. The two become roommates and now they have a chance to truely get to know one another. The movie portrays all of the ups and downs of this friendship and one true hardship that they must endure together. Through the thick and thin these two opposites make a perfect friendship to last a lifetime. If you are anything like Jay you would much rather hammer your own toes into a bloody mess before you would see this movie. But if you have an open mind towards chick flicks than I highly suggest giving it a try…and don’t forget the box of tissues. posted by Jenna Tuesday, August 26, 2003
